Cowboy Horrormance

"Some stories were never meant to be told. They're meant to be buried."

I don't know how she does it, but Karina Halle has the ability to combine genres that shouldn't work together into mind-bending, addictive stories. Logically, the history of the doomed Donner Party, cowboys, horror, romance, cold case mysteries and a touch of organized crime shouldn't work together at all, but she makes it work in a way that had me wanting to stay up all night reading!

Aubrey is an FBI agent on forced leave because she just can't let go of the case of her sister's mysterious disappearance near Donner Lake. She heads to the mountains to find Jensen McGraw, a tracker that can hopefully help her find some closure. But she keeps her identity as an agent under wraps.

But Aubrey isn't the only one keeping secrets. Jensen's secrets are bigger, deadlier and could spell the doom for their expedition into the mountains. Because those that die in this wilderness? They don't stay dead. They devour.

As secrets unravel and members of the crew start getting picked off one by one, Aubrey and Jensen must put aside their differences and use all their skills and wits if they're to survive.

Death Valley kept me on the edge of my seat from page one and is a story that will keep me up nights long after I've finished it.
